New Stroke Lifestyle Class Offered

A new, six-week stroke lifestyle class is being offered by Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ) that will meet every Thursday from 10 am to 11 am beginning Thursday, October 12 through Thursday, November 16 at the CREATION® Health Wellness Center, 38233 Daughtery Road.

While some risk factors for stroke like age and gender are not controllable, according to Deb Dungan, RN, FHZ’s Stroke Educator, lifestyle factors that one can manage will be the focus. Stroke education, prevention, exercise and diet will be covered. Depression and support for post stroke and TIA patients and their caregivers will also be addressed.

Stroke is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States, Dungan said. Each year, about 795,000 American will have a stroke and approximately 600,000 of these are first attacks. Most strokes occur in individuals over the age of 65, but that doesn’t preclude younger people from being affected too, she said.

There is a $30 fee for the class series and cash, checks and most major credit cards are accepted. To register, call (813) 779-6476.
