Florida Hospital Zephyrhills named Philip Betz, RN as its first DAISY Award recipient on Wednesday during an awards ceremony. Betz became a registered nurse in March of 1997 and has worked the night shift in Florida Hospital Zephyrhills’ ICU since 2007. He is also a relief charge nurse. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
“We are so honored to recognize Phil as our first DAISY Award recipient,” said Gwen Alonso, RN, MSN, and VP/Chief Nursing Officer at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. “Phil truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award and lives out the mission of Florida Hospital Zephyrhills in the care he provides to our patients every day.”
Each month, a nurse will be selected by Florida Hospital Zephyrhills to receive The DAISY Award. At a presentation given in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors, the honoree will receive a certificate commending her or him for being an "Extraordinary Nurse." The certificate reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The honoree will also be given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
