Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ) will devote February to free educational heart presentations and screenings to inform, prevent and perhaps save lives as part of its MEGA Heart Month.

In previous years, FHZ has hosted a MEGA Heart Expo where these activities have been condensed into four hours, according to Jane Freeman, FHZ’s Community Relations Manager. This year, however, FHZ wanted to offer more heart presentations and screenings to meet the community’s needs, she said.

Ten cardiac presentations are scheduled that include everything from how to perform CPR to women’s heart health, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and how best to manage cardiovascular disease if one is diabetic. EKGs, cholesterol screenings and leg and vein screenings are also available with all activities taking place at FHZ. Programs and screenings are by registration or appointment only by calling (877) 534-3108. To view the complete list of heart activities and the dates and times, visit and click on the “view upcoming events” tab. If one doesn’t have internet access or has questions, call Freeman at (813) 783-6192.

FHZ’s Wellness Center is also focusing on cardiac-related wellness programs in February that incorporate healthy eating and being fit physically, emotionally and spiritually.

FHZ offers the only comprehensive cardiovascular program in East and Central Pasco County that includes open heart surgery and valve repair, Freeman said. It has also been named One of America’s Best Hospitals for heart care by the Women’s Choice Award ® in 2018.
