Diagnosing and Treating Neurological Disease

In partnership with the Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute, Winter Park Memorial Hospital can diagnose and treat disorders of the nervous system: the central system, or the brain and spinal cord; the peripheral system, the path of nerves leading from the brain and spinal cord to the body; and autonomic system, the part of the nervous system controlling involuntary functions such as heart rate, salivation and perspiration. Our team approach and advanced technology enable us to better treat conditions such as:

Parkinson’s disease support

At Winter Park Memorial Hospital, we’re dedicated to holistically treating our neurological patients’ bodies, minds and spirits; our Parkinson’s disease patients and their family members often need additional support to deal with that degenerative condition. For that reason, the Florida Hospital Parkinson’s Outreach Center, in fact, offers support groups in four locations throughout Central Florida: downtown Orlando, Altamonte Springs, East Orlando and Winter Garden. The groups include discussions, educational presentations, music therapy, Parkinson’s exercise classes and caregiver meetings.

The downtown Orlando and Altamonte support groups meet twice a month; the Winter Garden group meets monthly, and the East Orlando group meets every other month. You don’t need a reservation; just come as you are, though we will ask you to sign in so we can remain in contact with you.

In addition, the Florida Hospital Parkinson’s Outreach Center, in collaboration with Rollins College, offers twice-monthly Dance for Parkinson’s events, on the first and third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Florida Hospital Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2800 North Orange Avenue in Orlando. This program offers specialized dance classes that empower individuals with Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s patients may also attend our CHEER>UP group meetings. Held the third Tuesday of each month at the Florida Hospital Seventh-Day Adventist Church, CHEER>UP offers patients a chance to participate in drama activities, which research has shown to keep our brains sharp.
