Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)

The Ear, Nose and Throat

At Winter Park Memorial Hospital, we know that disorders of the ear, nose and throat can dramatically impact your quality of life. As the only dedicated ENT unit in Central Florida, our staff has been specially trained in otolaryngology and its subspecialties. Our ENT specialists are dedicated to providing the absolute best and most effective care available. We comprehensively treat patients of all ages, and offer a wide variety of services and procedures.

Throughout the continuum of care—from evaluation to diagnosis to treatment and recovery—our expert team of board-certified doctors and highly skilled nurses are there to make sure you receive the most effective and professional services possible. We treat a full range of ear, nose and throat conditions, as well as related problems with the head and neck. These encompass everything from common allergy disorders to reconstructive surgeries.

Some of the services we offer include:

  • Robotic head and neck cancer treatment: Using a minimally invasive technique called transoral robotic surgery (TORS), surgeons are able to remove tumors of the mouth, tongue, tonsils and parts of the larynx while preserving the patient’s speech, swallowing and eating abilities. You can find a video that offers an in-depth explanation of the TORS process here.
  • Pediatric and Adult ENT care: Winter Park Memorial Hospital offers a full range of otolaryngology services—from reoccurring ear infections to more complex disorders.
  • Nasal and sinus disorders surgery: The expert surgeons at Winter Park Memorial Hospital can perform a number of surgeries designed to help patients recover from nasal and sinus disorders. These include:
    • Endoscopic sinus surgery: The goal of this surgery is to clear blocked sinuses and restore normal sinus drainage while preserving mucosal tissue. This is accomplished by using specialized instruments that are placed into the nose along with a small endoscope, which enables the surgeon to see inside the nose and nasal cavities.
    • Balloon sinuplasty: A balloon sinuplasty uses a small, flexible catheter balloon that is placed into the nose to reach the sinuses. The catheter is gradually inflated to restructure the previously blocked nasal passage. This procedure has only minimal bleeding and often permits patients to return to normal daily activities within 24 hours.
  • Ear and hearing disorders testing and treatment: Our expert ENT staff provides comprehensive hearing evaluations, hearing device selection, fitting and dispensing assistance, and otoacoustic emissions testing. To make an appointment, please give us a call today at (407) 303-8080 or visit the Florida Hospital Hearing Centers website for more information.
  • Allergy testing and treatment: Allergy experts can use skin or blood tests to check for allergies. While there is not a proven treatment for allergies, medications or allergen immunotherapy can help relieve symptoms.
  • Vertigo and dizziness treatment: Our team of specially trained audiologists works closely with the ENT-trained physicians to provide comprehensive care for patients with balance issues. Our services include videonystagmography/electronystagmography (VNG/ENG), vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPS), auditory brainstem response testing, electrocochleography and electroneurongraphy.
  • Sleep apnea and snoring treatment: Our team of experts treats the following sleep disorders: sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnia, restless legs, seizures, grinding of the teeth and other conditions that can cause improper sleep. In fact, Winter Park Memorial Hospital was the first to perform the transoral robotic surgery for sleep apnea, demonstrating that our physicians are leaders in their field.
  • Throat and voice disorders: Using a multidisciplinary approach, the voice pathologists and otolaryngologists at Winter Park Memorial Hospital can diagnose and treat a wide range of voice conditions, including disorders affecting professionals.
  • Cochlear implants: For patients who are deaf or severely hard of hearing, cochlear implants can help regain a sense of sound. These implants are small surgically implanted devices that work by delivering impulses directly to the auditory nerve, which in turn carries the signal to the brain. Cochlear implant surgery lasts about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
  • Thyroid surgery: Thyroid surgery is used to treat thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism. The types of thyroid surgery our experts perform include: a total thyroidectomy, in which the surgeon removes the entire gland and the lymph nodes surrounding the gland; thyroid lobectomy with or without an isthmectomy, in which the surgeon only removes the one lobe of the thyroid on which the nodules are located; and subtotal thyroidectomy, in which the surgeon removes part of one lobe and all of the other.
  • Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery: Along with our myriad ear, nose and throat services, we also provide reconstructive and cosmetic facial plastic surgery as well as minimally invasive procedures
