Volunteer Sewing Group Helps Patients at Local Hospital

Wesley Chapel, Fla. (February 17, 2014) – Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel has a special group of talented volunteers nicknamed “Sew Caring.”  This group got together last fall for a very special project…making 25 heart-shaped pillows and 25 seatbelt strap cushions for women who are currently receiving treatment for breast cancer or for those who are recovering from treatment.

“A labor of love is what we do; we made this pillow just for you. To comfort you, we stuff and sew; you’re in our thought, we want you to know,” says the note to patients from the Sew Caring group.

Once they got together, the group, who all volunteer regularly in various positions throughout the hospital, came up with ideas for other potential projects like lap blankets for people in wheelchairs or teddy bears for kids who come into the ER, but currently, the group does not have the supplies or resources to make them happen.

Connie Bladon, Executive Director of the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel Foundation, is asking area stores and community residents to help donate supplies for this group’s next set of projects.  The group needs two portable sewing machines, soft fabrics like flannel or cotton, notions like scissors, threads and needles, lace, trims, rick-rack and ribbons. Any donations can be delivered to the Foundation at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel and are tax deductible as provided by law.  For more information, call the Foundation at 813-929-5497.
