Frequently Asked Hospital Questions

When it comes to your family’s health, every decision makes a difference—and deciding which hospital to entrust with your care is one of the most important decisions you may ever make. We are honored to serve you.

Below, we’ve listed a handful of our patients’ frequently asked questions, with the hope that they will give you a better sense of our health care facilities and specialties. However, if your question isn’t answered here, don’t hesitate to contact us directly. We’d be happy to discuss your concerns and will endeavor in all we do to make your Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel experience as comfortable—and comforting—as possible.

Can anyone talk to a chaplain, or is that service only available to patients?

At Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, we don’t distinguish between a sick body and a suffering soul. Whether you’re a patient, family member or guest, you can reach a chaplain 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing “0” on any hospital phone.

The operator will put you in touch with a member of our pastoral care team, who will be happy to serve you regardless of your faith tradition (or lack thereof).

Whether you wish to pray, participate in a ritual or sacrament, or simply need someone to talk to—or if you would like us to connect you to a member of your own faith community—our chaplains are there for your encouragement and support. After all, we know that peace of mind and a hopeful outlook are integral elements of the healing process.

I was in the hospital several weeks ago; why haven’t I received a bill?

If 12 weeks have passed and you haven’t received a bill, please contact our billing office to ensure that your patient information (i.e., your address and the spelling of your name) is accurate. Normally, we won’t send you a bill until after we’ve received payment from your insurance company or Medicare and can calculate the balance due—for instance, your insurance deductible. If no payment is due, we’ll send you a statement indicating that your services have been paid in full.

Is smoking permitted at the hospital?

The use of nicotine products, including cigarettes, is prohibited on hospital property. If you’d like to quit—being a health care organization, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that you should—we offer discreet, effective programs what will help you kick the habit once and for all.

How can I get a job at your hospital?

Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel offers an excellent opportunity for health care professionals to build their careers in a friendly, challenging and patient-centered environment. To inquire about possible job opportunities, please contact us through our careers website.

Why do some patients in the emergency department get seen faster than others? Isn’t it first come, first served?

The short answer is no. Our emergency-room nurses are trained to evaluate the seriousness of incoming patients’ injuries or illnesses and quickly determine who is in the most immediate need of care. So if a patient who arrives after you in the ER is seen first, this simply means that the triage nurse believes that individual was in need of more urgent care. This process goes on every day in emergency rooms all over the country. However, if you have a special situation or believe your condition requires immediate attention, please speak with the intake nurse.

How can I get a copy of my medical records?

Federal and state privacy laws govern the circumstances under which we can share medical records with doctors, insurance companies and you. If you desire these records for personal use, your request must be made on or after the day you are discharged from the hospital. You will need to fill out a Request for Access and Authorization for Use and/or Disclosure of Protected Health Information form. (Please see information about our copying fee charges here.) Please note that for your own protection, you will need to sign for your records and provide proof of your identity.

Any records that you need for your continuum of care will be sent, free of charge, to your physician or new facility. If the records are for your doctor’s use, and he or she is on staff at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, his or her office can access the records without your permission. If your doctor is not affiliated with this hospital, we can fax the records to his or her office once you have completed the abovementioned form. (Please make sure you include your physician’s name, complete address, and phone and fax numbers.) You must fill out a separate form for each outside physician requesting your records.

If you need mental health records, please note that state law requires physician approval prior to their release, so allow an additional three to four business days for these requests to be processed.

If your insurance company needs your records, its attorney or designated officer must mail a request directly to the address on our authorization request form. We will send the records to the insurance company at no charge.

For radiology, imaging films or ancillary department requests, please contact the department that performed the service.
