Educational and Support Services

The Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute provides a wide array of educational and support services designed to help make the continuum of care as convenient and stress-free as possible.

SOCIAL SERVICES

A licensed oncology social worker assists patients and 
families in facing the emotional and practical challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. He or she is available as a resource to assist with arrangements for home health care, Hospice care, transportation, financial assistance programs and many other services.

Other support services provided by the Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute include:

  • Home care services offered through community resources.
  • Nutritional consults, in which licensed dietitians provide medical nutritional therapy to cancer patients.
  • Outpatient oncology social worker, who provides individual counseling and education and assists patients and their families in accessing outside resources to address financial concerns, disability, occupational challenges and transportation arrangements. Contact Laytanya Ruiz at (352) 253-3605.
  • Pastoral care: Three full-time chaplains are available 24 hours a day.
  • Rehabilitation services: Highly skilled rehabilitation specialists help guide your treatment and recovery with a specialized plan coordinated with your physician.

Stress Management Class
Meets Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
8-week stress management class for newly diagnosed, patients in treatment and caregivers to help learn strategies to cope and manage daily stress.
