Vulvovaginitis

Preventing Vulvovaginitis

A number of actions can help in preventing vulvovaginitis. Proper hygiene eliminates many causes of non-infectious vulvovaginitis. Clothing that is not too tight and absorbs moisture adequately also reduces the possibility of infection. Young girls should be taught proper cleaning after using the toilet to avoid moving bacteria from the anus to the vagina. Hand washing before and after using the bathroom is a good practice for avoiding infection. Most sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be prevented by using condoms. While not all causes of infection are avoidable, adopting sensible lifestyle habits significantly contributes to the prevention of vulvovaginitis.
