The vulvectomy procedure removes all or part of the vulva and includes four different types of surgery:
- Skinning vulvectomy – Only the top, cancerous layer of skin on the vulva is removed. In some cases, skin grafts from other parts of the body may be harvested to cover the affected area.
- Simple vulvectomy – The entire vulva is removed.
- Modified radical vulvectomy – The entire vulva, along with some surrounded tissue is removed.
- Radical vulvectomy – The entire vulva, clitoris and some nearby tissue is removed, along with any lymph nodes that may be affected.
