Vocal Cord Paralysis

Preventing Vocal Cord Paralysis

Preventing vocal cord paralysis is possible to a degree by avoiding some of the known causes of the condition. Using seat belts while driving and wearing protective equipment during sports or other activities can minimize the chance of injury to the head, neck and chest. Avoiding cigarette smoking and environmental toxins may reduce the chance of developing tumors or cancer. However, in cases arising from diseases without a known cause – for example Parkinson’s and some other degenerative neurological conditions – science still has not determined how to prevent vocal cord paralysis.
