Related treatments to a Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery Lobectomy (VATS) are provided if patients are poor candidates to have this procedure. Patients may require a number of screenings and tests to diagnose their lung condition. In many instances, the doctor may take a biopsy of the lung to test it for cancer. 

Robotic Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (RATS) is a robotic procedure where a surgeon can watch a magnified version of the surgery in 3D form. This robotic system can follow the precise movements of the surgeon to perform the lung surgeries such as a lobectomy and tumor removal. Since RATS is an advanced technology, this robotic system is limited to a few medical institutions. Florida Hospital is one select few with VATS and RATS technology.  

Traditional thoracotomy surgery is an invasive procedure that involves cutting into the chest. This surgical treatment is more painful, requires additional recovery time and may cause severe complications.
