The causes of vaginal cysts depend on the type of cyst involved.

Vaginal inclusion cysts can result from injury to the vagina during surgery or while giving birth.

Bartholin’s cysts are fluid or pus that builds up into a lump in one of the Bartholin glands on each side of the opening of the vagina that provide lubrication

Endometriosis, when uterine cells grow in other areas of the body, can develop as cysts in the vagina

Benign tumors rarely form but are made up of cysts.
