Vaginal Cancer

Prevention of Vaginal Cancer

While vaginal cancer is a rare disease, there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing it. As the human papilloma virus is associated with vaginal cancer, for instance, receiving an HPV vaccination and receiving a regular Pap test to check for cervical abnormalities may aid in preventing vaginal cancer. In addition, as smokers are more than twice as likely to develop vaginal cancer as nonsmokers, smoking cessation is a key means of prevention.
