Urinary Cancer

Prevention of Urinary Cancer

The best means of preventing both kidney and bladder cancer is to stop smoking. For kidney cancer, patients undergoing treatments for kidney disorders, especially those that include dialysis, should closely adhere to their doctor’s instructions. Avoiding exposure to harmful chemicals (including having well water tested for arsenic contamination), drinking plenty of fluids, eating antioxidant-rich fresh fruits and vegetables and decreasing the intake of red meats and dairy products, physical activity and weight control can also reduce a person’s risk of developing bladder cancer.

If you notice blood in the urine, or hematuria, it is imperative that you seek medical attention immediately.
