Conditions Related to Tracheomalacia

A few related conditions of tracheomalacia may occur in affected children. Heart defects, gastroesophageal reflux disease, delayed development and other congenital problems can be present. Serious lung problems often affect adults who develop tracheomalacia after being treated on a breathing machine. Inhaling food can cause aspiration pneumonia which can lead to life threatening complications.
