Pulmonary Function Testing

We Live and Breathe Quality Care

Pulmonary function tests have become an important resource for measuring lung performance and detecting a broad array of diseases that can affect lung tissue. At Florida Hospital, we provide convenient access to pulmonary function testing for both inpatients and outpatients. If a pulmonary issue is detected, we provide a pulmonary rehabilitation program designed to assist patients in the management of lung disease and chronic pulmonary conditions.

Pulmonary Functions

Florida Hospital offers pulmonary function testing at six facilities: Orlando, Winter Park, East Orlando, Altamonte, Apopka and Celebration.
Physicians may order a variety of specific tests to determine lung function and baseline status. Doctors use the results to determine diagnosis or rule out disease processes for their patients.

Pulmonary Function Testing for Inpatients And Outpatients

You can receive pulmonary function testing while you’re an inpatient or you can schedule testing as an outpatient through Florida Hospital Central Scheduling. Bedside pulmonary function screening is available at each of the six campuses along with overnight pulse oximetry, which is used in diagnosing sleep apnea. Advanced diagnostic testing at the Orlando campus Pulmonary Function Laboratory includes infant pneumocardiograms, hydrogen breath testing, lactose and lactulose testing.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Florida Hospital offers pulmonary rehabilitation at Celebration Health, the main Orlando campus and at Winter Park Memorial Hospital. Our program is designed to support and extend the care of primary, pulmonary and other specialty physicians to assist patients to manage the symptoms and the stress of lung disease and chronic pulmonary conditions.

Monitored exercise sessions and educational classes are led by specially trained professional staff. The sessions focus on both the physical and mental challenges of pulmonary diseases to help each patient achieve the highest possible functional capacity allowable by his/her condition and life style. As a result, the patient is enabled to lead a more productive, satisfying and active lifestyle with greater independence.

 Goals of pulmonary rehabilitation include:

·             Promote physical conditioning and exercise tolerance

·             Understand how to work smarter, not harder, during daily activities

·             Learn about pulmonary medications

·             Manage emotional well-being and stress

·             Improved general health

·             Nutritional awareness as a key factor in health maintenance
