Pediatric Surgery

General pediatric surgeries are conducted in a surgical suite designed specifically for pediatric patients.  The pediatric OR is equipped with state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical equipment capable of operating on children of all sizes ranging from neonatal babies to teenagers.  Offering a sense of control and a welcome distraction, patients can choose from a series of colorful lights that illuminate the room or even have their favorite song playing while in there.   We have a great team of surgeons on staff who specialize in pediatric surgeries, including All Children’s Specialty Physicians.

At the Pediatric Care Center, children have the benefit of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Our patients’ direct medical team specializes in pediatric medicine and consists of nurses, pharmacists, pediatric intensivists and occasional residents or medical students.  When necessary, patients and their families also have access to a pediatric social worker, a child life specialist, a pediatric respiratory therapist, a pediatric dietitian, and a chaplain. All patients and their families benefit from the entire staff’s expertise.

Child Life Specialist

Our child life specialist focuses on the emotional and developmental needs of children and their families. By using play and other forms of communication, the child life specialist seeks to reduce the stress associated with the hospital experience and enables children and their families to cope in a positive manner.

Child-Friendly Atmosphere

The Pediatric Care Center at Florida Hospital Tampa provides a child-friendly atmosphere that promotes healing. The entire unit is decorated in an island theme, with friendly characters integrated throughout.    All pediatric rooms are private and equipped to accommodate parents who wish to stay with their child 24 hours a day.  Patients can visit the island-themed playroom full of touch-screen video games and interactive toys for all ages.

The Pediatric Care Center has taken great measures to provide a calm, soothing, yet fun environment to help reduce anxiety during our patients’ stay, encouraging them to focus on healing. The comfort of our young patients is a main concern for our staff.
