Information for Physicians Referring TAVR Patients

We are delighted to announce the availability of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) for patients with aortic stenosis utilizing the Edwards SAPIEN™ Transcatheter Heart Valve at the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute Valve Center. TAVR is indicated for patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who are felt to be inoperable for open aortic valve replacement due to existing comorbidities.

How to Refer a Patient
Potential patients can be referred for evaluation to the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute’s Valve Center by calling 813-55-HEART (813-554-3278) or (813) 615-7201.

You may also fill out a TAVR Referral form and fax it to (813) 615-7574 or (813) 902-6721.

Our Valve Center Coordinator, Tracie Mello, RN, will contact your office to review existing clinical information and arrange any additional testing required for screening. Testing includes echocardiography (TTE or TEE), a chest/abdomen/pelvis CT angiogram using TAVR protocol, right and left heart catheterization (preferably with aortogram and runoff), pulmonary function testing and carotid ultrasound. Patients will be seen for an outpatient evaluation at the Valve Center and our team will complete a comprehensive assessment at that time.

Our physician team is dedicated to recommending the very best approach and treatment for your patient, keeping you informed throughout the evaluation process and ensuring a seamless transition of patient care.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration in allowing us to work with you and offer this important new advance in cardiac therapy to your patients.
