An influential business leader once said, “the best way to predict the future is to create it.” At the Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute, we are helping to create the future. Through our groundbreaking research, we are among the first to use pharmaceutical agents, biomedical devices and medical knowledge that will be used by future clinicians to prevent, control and cure many of today’s diseases.
Our clinical research program allows us to provide lifesaving breakthroughs long before they are available in most other hospitals. It also allows us to help shape the future of health care.
The mission of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute is to advance patient care through cutting-edge, patient-focused clinical research. Though we are housed at Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute, our clinical research reaches across many clinical disciplines. Clinical investigators are active members of the medical or nursing staffs of one or more of our hospitals.
Our research has been recognized and published in renowned peer-reviewed publications such as The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and Contemporary Clinical Trials (Elsevier).
Institutional Review Board
Our commitment to the highest standard of clinical research and patient care is directed by the Florida Hospital Tampa Institutional Review Board (IRB), a federally approved IRB composed of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, scientists, ethicists and local community members.
Our IRB ensures the integrity of clinical trials, including an ethical approach and safety precautions to protect the welfare of patients volunteering to participate in research trials. Research at the Institute is conducted under standards of Good Clinical Practice provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Guideline.
