Subareolar Abscess

Causes of Subareolar Abscess

The cause of subareolar abscesses is the blockage of small ducts or glands under the areola—the colored area surrounding a woman’s nipple—the leads to the development of a subcutaneous infection. There are no known risk factors for this uncommon condition, which primarily affects younger and middle-aged women who are not breast-feeding.
