Prevention of Stroke

There are steps individuals can take to reduce their chances of having a stroke—especially if they’ve already had one. Preventing a stroke begins with living a healthy lifestyle: that means quitting smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke, being active and following a healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains, as well as lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, and fat-free or low-fat milk. Individuals who are overweight or obese should talk with their doctor about the best way to lose weight.
