As with every surgical procedure, patients should understand the risks and side effects of stomach surgery before undergoing the procedure. Each patient experiences different side effects. It’s important to speak with your doctor about what to expect.

  • Gastritis (inflammation in the stomach lining)

  • Injury to other organs during surgery 
  • Scarring inside the belly
  • Dumping syndrome (diarrhea, abdominal pain and lightheadedness)
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Osteoporosis
