Spinal Tumors

Related Conditions of Spinal Tumors

Tumors in the spine can be primary (originating in the spine) or secondary (spreading from other parts of the body). Cancerous conditions related to spinal tumors that can spread from other parts of the body include these common cancers:

  • Breast cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Brain cancer

These are just a few of the types of cancer that can spread (metastasize) to the spine. During treatment for these related conditions, patients should speak to their doctor immediately if they experience unexplained back pain. This may indicate the tumor has spread to the spinal cord.
