Several different health problems caused by a deviated septum lead to surgical intervention. These conditions related to septoplasty include:
- Problems breathing through the nose
- Recurrent sinus or nasal infections
- Uncontrollable nosebleeds
- A nasal perforation or hole in the cartilage
Drug abuse is another condition related to septoplasty. Inhaling, or snorting substances like cocaine can also cause damage to the septum.
