Symptoms and Signs of Rectal Tumors

In the early stages of rectal cancer, patients may not experience any symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they may result from other colorectal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis or Crohn's Disease. Symptoms and signs of rectal cancer include:

  • Altered bowel habits
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Altered stool consistency
  • Narrow stools
  • Bleeding from the rectum
  • Bloody stool
  • Ongoing abdominal pain, cramps or gas
  • Painful bowel movements
  • The sensation that the bowel is not able to empty completely
  • Unexplained weight loss
