Side Effects of Progesterone

While progesterone is usually safe when used as prescribed, it does have the potential for some side effects, including:

  • Breathing problems
  • Changes in heart rate
  • Cough
  • Confusion and/or depression
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Irregular menstruation
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Vaginal inflammation
  • Vertigo or dizziness 
  • Vision problems
  • Breast Pain 

In addition, progesterone may increase a woman’s chances of developing breast or ovarian cancer, endometriosis, heart disorders, painful menstruation and uterine fibroids, and it may also cause low blood pressure.
