Conditions Related to Polyhydramnios

In some cases polyhydramnios can be linked to genetic defects, which your doctor may evaluate through an amniocentesis; other related conditions include premature delivery, placental abruption (when the placental detaches from the uterus) and umbilical cord relapse (when the cord falls through the cervical opening and sometimes becomes compressed). Uncontrolled maternal diabetes has also been linked as a potential cause of polyhydramnios.
