Pituitary Tumor

Treating Pituitary Tumor

Treatment options for pituitary tumors will depend on the type of tumor, its size and location, whether it is pressing on the brain or other structures, and the patient’s health and age. There are a few primary treatments for these tumors: surgery to remove the tumor; radiation therapy, in which high levels of radiation are used to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors; radiosurgery, which is a type of radiation therapy that uses a single high dose of radiation sent directly into the cancerous tissue; chemotherapy, which is used to stop tumor growth; and medications to control the hormone production associated with the tumor.
