Side Effects of Pentosan Polysulfate

Common side effects associated with the use of pentosan polysulfate include: hair loss, headache, nausea, upset stomach, difficulty sleeping, diarrhea, heartburn, rash, moodiness and dizziness. More serious but less common side effects that should prompt an immediate phone call to the patient’s doctor include: nosebleed, unusual bruising or bleeding, heavy gum bleeding, black and tarry stools, red blood in stools, and bloody vomit or vomiting material that looks like coffee grounds.
