Pelvic Pain

Treatment for Pelvic Pain

Treatment options for pelvic pain will depend on your overall health, medical history, and the extent and cause of the pain. These treatments may include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory or pain medications, nutritional therapy (e.g., taking vitamin B and magnesium), relaxation exercises, oral contraceptives (to inhibit ovulation), physical therapy (including acupuncture, acupressure and nerve stimulation therapies) and surgery (in which nerves are cut or otherwise destroyed to block pain signals from reaching organs and tissues).

If none of these treatments works, and if no underlying physical cause can be found, your doctor may diagnose your pain as a psychological coping or defense mechanism that is helping you deal with some type of trauma, in which case he or she make recommend psychotherapy.
