Pelvic Pain

Screening and Tests for Pelvic Pain

Tests for pelvic pain usually seek to figure out the source of the pain. In the course of diagnosing the underlying ailment, your doctor may ask you where the pain occurs, how long it lasts, whether it's sharp or dull, whether it's related to your menstrual cycle or sexual activity, and other similar questions.

Following a complete medical history and pelvic exam, screening for pelvic pain can include:

  • Blood tests
  • Pregnancy test
  • Urinalysis
  • Cervical cell culture
  • Ultrasound
  • CT scan
  • MRI scan
  • Laparoscopy
  • Cystoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • X-ray
