Neuroscience (Neurology)

At Florida Hospital, our cutting-edge Neuroscience Institute is an extension of our commitment to providing patients who are suffering from a brain, spine or nervous system disorder with the absolute best care possible. We take a multidisciplinary approach to treating these conditions that involves specialists in the fields of neuroscience, neurology, neuropsychology, behavorial health, physical therapy, geriatrics and nursing.

By the time the Neuroscience Institute was formed in 1998, Florida Hospital Orlando was already recognized as a statewide leader in neurological and neurosurgical care. Since then, it has grown into one of the most comprehensive neurological programs anywhere. In fact, we treat more neurological patients than any other hospital in the United States. This assures our patients that they’re in experienced hands. We offer skilled physicians and specially trained health care professionals. We also actively participate in research and invest in state-of-the-art technology, which means our patients are afforded the latest, most advanced treatment options and techniques available.

Our goal at the Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute is to be at the forefront of neurological medicine. The neurologists at Florida Hospital Orlando specialize in a number of areas, including stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, dementia and headaches. We also offer the only neuroscience program of its kind in the state dedicating to treating patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain without an increase in pressure.

Every year, some 50 million Americans experience a brain or nervous system disorder. Florida Hospital provides early diagnosis of seizure disorders for adults and children.  The Florida Hospital Seizure Monitoring units provide for 24/7 monitoring by an EEG technologist, using state of the art diagnostic equipment.  Experienced neurologists, technologists, and nurses work collaboratively to optimize patient care and provide for patient comfort. Florida Hospital’s team of experts offers a wide range of treatment options for seizure patients.  Treatment options range from medication to Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) implantation, to advanced neurosurgical procedures.

Florida Hospital treats everything from brain tumors to Alzheimer’s disease to sleep disorders to Parkinson’s disease. No matter your condition, the experts at the Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute have the skills, experience and technology to treat you, all in the compassionate, patient-centered environment that has defined Florida Hospital for more than a century.
