The Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery Program includes a multidisciplinary team of physicians, clinicians, and support staff that work together to achieve excellent patient care, outcomes, and experience. Below are two leaders of the program who you will interact with along with other team members that round out our comprehensive program.
Melvin Field, MD, Neurological Surgery
Surgical Director of the Neuroscience Institute at Florida Hospital Orlando
Dr. Field is the physician champion of the Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery (MIBS) Program and oversees the decisions made for each patient coming through the program as well as patient outcomes and quality measures. He completed his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Florida where he was a Florida Academic Scholar, graduated with highest honors. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While there, Dr. Field pursued his interests in minimally invasive neurosurgery taking active roles in the lab and the clinical Gamma Knife and Skull Base Programs. In 2003, Dr. Field brought endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery to Florida and has been performing MIBS procedures at Florida Hospital Orlando since. Having evaluated over 1,000 patients for MIBS procedures, Dr. Field is a recognized leader in the field. Dr. Field’s current areas of clinical interest include endoscopic and minimally invasive cranial neurosurgery, Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and the surgical management of neurovascular compression syndromes (including Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemifacial Spasm). Dr. Field lectures and teaches both nationally and internationally on multiple aspects of minimally invasive brain surgery. He believes the best outcomes when dealing with complex problems of the brain occur when specialists from multiple disciplines come together with their tools and experience to form a multidisciplinary approach using the best technologies and skills to treat a single problem. This is the basis from which the Florida Hospital MIBS Program was created.
