Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery Program

At Florida Hospital Orlando, we understand that patients suffering from brain diseases and injuries are faced with many options regarding brain surgery. This is why we have put together a multidisciplinary team that works together to create an individualized plan of care for every patient that provides maximum benefit utilizing the most technologically advanced facilities and equipment. We treat the common brain conditions as well as the not-so-common conditions such as brain aneurysm, brain cyst and skull based tumors.

Florida Hospital Orlando performs more neurosurgical procedures than any other hospital in the state of Florida. The Neuroscience Institute at Florida Hospital Orlando is lead by Surgical Director Melvin Field, MD, Neurological Surgery and our nationally renowned neurological physicians with a commitment to clinical measures, quality, research and patient experience to achieve the best possible outcomes.  We strive to always be on the cutting edge of brain surgery. In many cases, our experts can offer minimally invasive brain surgeries (MIBSs), which have a lower risk of side effects and complications than traditional open surgeries. The MIBS techniques include Gamma Knife radiosurgery, which allows us to precisely target brain tumors and lesions while leaving neighboring healthy tissue unaffected.

In addition, Florida Hospital Orlando is the only hospital in the Southeast to use an intraoperative 3-Tesla MRI, a powerful scanner that produces the clearest possible image of the brain and allows surgeons to look for tumors or other abnormalities in the brain as well as confirm the success of brain surgery.

Our Vision

To achieve statewide and national prominence in the treatment of brain disease and injury by providing minimally invasive options through a multidisciplinary team approach. We do this by utilizing technologically in advanced and integrated surgical suites to provide patients with the most effective individualized care.
