Women's Services

Maternal Fetal Medicine Program

At Florida Hospital Orlando, we’re committed to providing the best women’s health services possible. Through our maternal-fetal medicine program, we specialize in high-risk obstetrics, offering individual pregnancy plans for high-risk mothers-to-be, innovative treatments and a certified genetic counselor. In addition, we offer advanced imaging technologies, including:

  • 3D/4D ultrasounds
  • Certified nuchal translucency screening for certain birth defects
  • Fetal monitoring
  • Genetic screening
  • Maternal serum screening
  • Targeted ultrasounds
  • Trimester ultrasounds

The specialists at Florida Hospital Orlando’s maternal-fetal medicine program provide tests such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, which look for genetic or chromosomal anomalies in a fetus. In addition, our experts make available seven tests for Down syndrome and other birth defects, as well as other tests of fetal well being.

The board-certified genetic counselor performs therapy, tests and family planning for families and children who have or are at risk of developing a genetic disease or disorder. The specialties include genetic counseling services for birth defects, cystic fibrosis, neurofibromatosis, newborn screenings, developmental delays, teratogen, pediatric screening and more. The genetic counselor interacts directly with patients and their families, and along with the patient’s referring obstetrician or perinatologist, works to help the patient adjust to a variety of genetic issues.

Dr. Rachel Humphrey, Medical Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Perinatal Services at Florida Hospital strives to be a true partner to her patients throughout their pregnancy. She and her team involve their patients every step of the way, working with them and their obstetricians, as well as the pediatric specialists at Florida Hospital for Children, to develop an individualized plan for their pregnancy and delivery that optimizes the health of both mother and baby. Combining her years of experience with the kind of compassion on which Florida Hospital has staked its reputation for more than a century, Dr. Humphrey helps her patients feel both fully informed and entirely at ease, even in the most trying of pregnancies.
