Hemorrhoid Treatment System

Florida Hospital is the first facility in the nation to offer the HTS, a revolutionary minimally invasive treatment for hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum become swollen or inflamed. The HTS, or Hemorrhoid Treatment System, is a Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal ligation system that is expected to dramatically change the field of hemorrhoid surgery.

Conventional treatments for mild hemorrhoids usually include topical medication and dietary modification, while moderate or severe cases can call for hemorrhoid banding and invasive surgeries. These procedures can be painful and require significant time away from work and daily activities. The HTS, on the other hand, treats hemorrhoid systems quickly, effectively and with minimal pain.

The Doppler-guided hemorrhoid arterial ligation uses ultrasound tones to locate the rectal arteries and then stops the flow of blood to the hemorrhoidal tissue, causing the hemorrhoid to shrink and disappear. This procedure, which has been proven effective for both bleeding and hemorrhoidal prolapse, is performed with only minimal sedation in less than 20 minutes.

In addition, Dr. Mathew Albert, a board-certified colorectal surgeon and member of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Florida Hospital Orlando, is among the leading investigators in the United States into this new technology. He helps train other physicians from around the country who are interested in this procedure.

“We have had great success treating all symptomatic hemorrhoids using the HTS system,” said Dr. Albert. “HTS procedures are fast, easy to perform and there is immediate evidence of having successfully located and treated the condition during the procedure. It's minimally invasive, and our patients experience less pain postoperatively, allowing them to return to work much sooner.”
