Biographical Sketch for J. Dean Cole, MD

J. Dean Cole, MD, has truly focused his career on providing the best patient care available—even if he must invent a new therapy to do so. As medical director at Florida Hospital Fracture Care Center, Dr. Cole propels our orthopedic surgery and traumatology care to the cutting edge of medicine. In fact, his expertise, skill, dedication to excellence and patented innovations have made the Fracture Care Center an international destination for treating complex orthopedic injuries and conditions.

Dr. Cole specializes in complex procedures for deformity correction, limb lengthening, bone infection treatment, limb salvage, calcaneus fractures and nonunions/malunions. He focuses on each patient’s specific condition and works efficiently with his expert OR staff to achieve the best possible outcome. And if a therapy isn’t available—he invents one.

Dr. Cole holds the patent to more than a dozen surgical devices. One of his most well known innovations, the Intramedullary Skeletal Kinetic Distractor (ISKD) is the only FDA approved internal device for limb lengthening. He also holds patents for many screws and nails specially designed for healing after trauma. Drawing on his precise skill, Dr. Cole pioneered minimally invasive orthopedic surgery to improve surgical precision. His innovative drive for excellence provides our patients with the best orthopedic care available anywhere in the world.
