Breast Cancer Program

Breast Cancer Program

At some point in their lives, one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. At Florida Hospital Orlando, we’re doing our best to change that sobering statistic. Our Florida Hospital Cancer Institute’s High-Risk Breast Cancer Center is the only program of its kind in Central Florida. It helps women identify their genetic and environmental risks of developing breast cancer, and ensures that patients who are at risk of breast cancer, either because of genetic or non-genetic factors, are given the tools they need to reduce their chances of developing this disease.

Along with our genetic counselor and breast health specialist, Dr. David Decker, the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute’s executive director, ensures that patients who are at risk of developing breast cancer are put on specific evaluation regimens, including regular screenings and follow-up visits that allow us to detect cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages. In addition, the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) is one of only two facilities in the state to offer access to clinical trials run by the National Cancer Institute that focus on cancer control and prevention.

To learn more about your risk of acquiring breast cancer or to speak with our genetic counselor, contact the High-Risk Breast Cancer Center today at (407) 303-5955.

Clinical Trials

Florida Hospital Cancer Insitute's Clinical Research Center has been awarded a $2.1 million grant from the National Cancer Institute’s Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP), allowing FHCI access to NCI’s prevention, control and treatment trials for cancer treatment and prevention. The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute is accredited by several national cancer organizations for their quality, outcomes and comprehensive care. FHCI is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (COC) and the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI).

The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute also features the first and only breast cancer care program in Central Florida to be granted the American College of Surgeon’s National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This prestigious accreditation recognizes medical providers that voluntarily provide the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. Each breast center undergoes a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with NAPBC standards. To maintain accreditation, centers must monitor compliance with these standards to ensure quality care, and undergo an onsite review every three years.

All of our imaging centers are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for imaging excellence. Our facilities and personnel meet the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety, having completed a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the ACR.
