Nitric Oxide

Conditions Related to Nitric Oxide

For newborns with difficulty breathing, respiratory distress or other conditions related to nitric oxide therapy, Florida Hospital offers the most advanced procedures available for treating the condition.

Nitric oxide therapy relaxes the blood vessels in the baby’s lungs to help he or she breathe easier. This treatment may be given to babies in the first few hours of life when complications or birth defects cause high blood pressure in the lungs or the lungs are underdeveloped.

These are a few of the conditions related to nitric oxide therapy:

  • Premature babies with low birth weights
  • Respiratory distress syndrome
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN)
