If you’re a runner or a walker, Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ) CREATION® Health Wellness Center encourages you to participate in its third annual 5k Run for the Hills starting at 8 am on Sunday, October 22, at the hospital’s main entrance at 7050 Gall Blvd. One hundred percent of all funds raised will be used for humanitarian relief efforts in Puerto Rico which was recently ravaged by Hurricane Maria, according to Casio Jones, Wellness Director.
“We’ve changed the path for our proceeds after what’s happened to our friends in Puerto Rico, said Jones. “One week ago, all donations from the run/race were to benefit FHZ’s diabetes education program as they have in years past. Diabetes awareness and education remain core components of what we do, that won’t change. But because so many of our Wellness Center members, neighbors and friends have been directly and indirectly impacted by Maria, we feel that support for those in Puerto Rico takes precedent,” he added.
The run/walk registration fee is $30 per person and $15 for children ages 12 and younger. The course, which consists primarily of Dairy Road and FHZ’s campus, is certified.
Sponsorships ranging from $100 to $2,500 are still available but donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, Jones said, even if you aren’t walking or running. To register or learn more about the event, visit RunForZephyrhills.org or call at (813) 783-6123.
