“Pink by Design” Event Fights Breast Cancer with Fashion

ORANGE CITY, Fla., November 9, 2015 – On Oct. 23, more than 200 community members joined Florida Hospital Fish Memorial for Pink by Design, a fun fashion show and pink shopping experience to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer patients.

“It is national breast cancer awareness month, and this is our opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer,” said Florida Hospital Fish Memorial chief operating officer Danielle Johnson. “One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.”

The event showcased a Fall 2015 fashion show on the lower level of center court at Seminole Towne Center featuring 16 breast cancer survivors as models, wearing fashions from seven participating stores: Dillard’s, Macy’s, JC Penney, Talbots, Adventura Bridal and Tuxedo, Camy Couture and Francesca’s. In addition, Macy’s, Dillard’s, and JCPenney also provided makeup for the models’ walk down the runway.

“We are grateful for the beautiful and courageous models appearing on stage this evening,” said Carmen Vallone, comedian who co-hosted the event with Tracy McCoy. “Spanning different ages, backgrounds and skin color, our models are united by breast cancer. In too many cases, not only is the model a survivor of the disease, but her mother or another family member has also battled the disease.”

“Our survivors appear today with open hearts and generous souls, and bring with them the message of saving lives through early detection and self-examination,” said Jennifer Shull, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial chief nursing officer.

The event’s attendees received complimentary nail polish from Paris Nails, while BoCo Salon and Spa provided free pink hair extensions.
