DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 9, 2015 – On Jan. 3 from noon to 2 p.m., Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center will host a grand opening celebration for the $1.3 million, 6,500 square-foot expansion to the hospital’s Center for Health and Wellness. The construction on the Wellness Center was made possible through a donation from the Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation.
The expanded wellness center is the first of its kind in the Volusia and Flagler area.
“This is not a center where patients go simply to receive therapy after a cardiac or orthopedic event. Instead, this more like a high-end fitness center. This wellness center is a place residents who are not patients themselves can go to improve their overall health and wellbeing,” said Darlinda Copeland, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center senior vice president and chief operating officer. “Health and wellness is at the core of Florida Hospital’s mission and this expanded wellness center is reflective of that.”
In February 2014, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center opened the Center for Health and Wellness on the first floor of the hospital’s medical office building. The 6,165 square-foot center includes cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes education, as well as outpatient physical, speech and occupational therapy.
In September, construction began to double the size of this state-of-the-art facility.
For an annual membership fee, community residents and hospital employees can gain access to exercise equipment, such as treadmills and weights, and group exercise classes, such as spin class and yoga, as well as educational programs on healthy eating and other wellness topics. Free child care will also be available to members while they exercise.
