Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Receives Awards for Stroke and Heart Care

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ) has received two Gold Plus Awards, the highest any hospital can attain, for stroke care and heart failure.

FHZ earned the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke HonorSM Roll through a two-fold process, according to Gwen Alonso, RN, MSN, FHZ’s Chief Nursing Officer. First, the hospital had to achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all of the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive years. FHZ also had to attain 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality measures. The award is given by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association.

“The quality measures are designed to ensure that we’re following the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding up recovery and decreasing death and disability for our stroke patients,” Alonso said.

FHZ also received the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures as outlined by the AHA and the American College of Cardiology. Success is primarily based on prompt and accurate diagnosis, treatment, and patient education and prevention programs that reduce the risk of heart failure patients relapsing and needing to return to the hospital within 30 days. Helping individuals who have heart failure manage this chronic condition so they have a good quality of life is also key.

Finally, FHZ has earned the Mission: Lifeline Silver Achievement Award from the AHA for its STEMI program. The acronym STEMI is used to describe a heart attack and stands for ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction. “We commend Florida Hospital Zephyrhills for this achievement award which reflects a significant institutional commitment to the highest quality of care for their heart attack patients,” said James G. Jollis, MD, Chair of the Mission: Lifeline Advisory Group.

“We are honored to have received these awards,” Alonso said. “I believe that they underscore our staff’s continued commitment to deliver quality, advanced stroke and heart care quickly and safely. We continue to work diligently to receive these recognitions and improve our patient outcomes in every area.”
