Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Appoints Gwen Alonso Chief Nursing Officer

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills has named Gwen Alonso the new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for the Hospital. The CNO is responsible for the leadership, direction, and administration of nursing operations to ensure compliance with the hospital’s mission, strategic plan, and objectives to the realization of quality, cost-effective health care services for patients. She will have oversight over all nursing departments within the 139-bed acute care facility. She brings more than 30 years of nursing experience to her new role.

Alonso has been employed at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills since 2003, and most recently held the position of Associate Vice President of Cardiac Services, a position she has held since 2010. Prior to that, she served as the Administrative Director of Cardiovascular Services from 2005 to 2010, and as the Critical Care Director from 2003 to 2005. Prior to joining Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, she worked at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point from 1981 to 2003, holding various nursing and nurse leadership positions during her 22 year tenure.

She holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of South Florida; a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southern Adventist University; and an Association of Science degree in Nursing from Hillsborough Community College. She has completed several additional leadership training courses including the Adventist Health System Clinical Executive Leadership Boot Camp in 2010 and holds a Lean Leader Certification, certified in 2011. She was recognized with an award for Clinical Excellence in Nursing Practice by Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in 1991.
