Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Recognizes Nurse with DAISY Award

ORANGE CITY, Fla., November 8, 2018 – Florida Hospital Fish Memorial recognized registered nurse Kahla Leyerzapf with the DAISY award.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.

Leyerzapf is a graduate nurse and works on the fifth floor medical-surgical unit, caring for patients with basic medical issues, undergoing surgery, and those receiving chemotherapy. She was nominated for this recognition by the niece of a patient at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

“Kahla is an exceptional nurse,” she wrote in the nomination. “She always explains to the patient what she is doing, what is next, how long it will take, etc. You never doubt that you are in good hands.”

“Today, Kahla went above and beyond,’ she added. “She made sure my aunt’s hair was washed and took the time to put a French braid in her hair. It was a wonderful treat that made my aunt feel special. Kahla definitely deserves the DAISY Award.”

Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.

In recognition of this honor, Leyerzapf received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

Her unit, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial’s fifth floor medical-surgical unit, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
