ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 7, 2018 — Florida Hospital’s annual “Backpacks for Kids” campaign is delivering school supplies to children in need just in time for the school year.
Two thousand backpacks filled with supplies were donated by hospital employees Tuesday and will be distributed to students in Orange and Seminole counties.
“We have to ensure that children in need have the school supplies they need to go back to school,” said Florida Hospital pastoral care team member Elougee Williamson. “I’m quite humbled to just serve, help another person and show how much we care for our community. This is always a part of the whole care experience here at Florida Hospital.”
In addition to working with local schools, Florida Hospital is partnering with Hope Now International to make sure Central Florida’s neediest children have much-needed access to school supplies.
Since launching in 2001, Florida Hospital’s Backpacks for Kids program has provided school supplies and backpacks to thousands of local children.
“Our employees get excited about this campaign because I think it brings back that nostalgia of opening up a new backpack with fresh supplies on the first day of school,” said Meghan Israel, who coordinates the program. “Unfortunately, not every parent can supply that for their children. As employees, we can work together to help these children have the same experience that we all may have remembered.”
