DELAND, Fla., December 9, 2016 – On Dec. 6, the community joined Florida Hospital DeLand for a free presentation on knee pain featuring orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Hollmann.
Over dinner, Hollmann discussed joint pain and arthritic issues.
“One in six people are affected by arthritis, or one in three families,” he said. “Approximately 50 percent of people 65 years and older have arthritis. Younger people have a lower risk, yet they still make up half of those with arthritis.”
He also addressed technology and advances in orthopedic care.
“In the last year, we’ve worked hard here at Florida Hospital DeLand to reduce a patient’s length of stay after a joint replacement from three days down to two. Just this week, I had a patient that had knee surgery and went home later that same day,” Hollmann said to the nearly 75 attendees.
“Before undergoing any procedure, it is important to do your own research and find an experienced physician,” he added. “About 80 percent of surgeons who perform knee replacements do less than 20 – that’s less than two per month.”
By contrast, Hollmann performs more than 300 knee replacements each year at Florida Hospital DeLand.
