DAISY Award Given to Deserving Nurse

Dana Friedman, RN, has been presented with the most recent DAISY Award for excellence in nursing by Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ). Friedman joined the hospital in 2015 and began her career on Med Surg 2 but is now employed in the emergency department.

Friedman was chosen by hospital leadership for the award because of the compassion she showed towards a patient and his wife. The couple was celebrating their 51rst wedding anniversary and when Friedman found out, she had red velvet cupcakes delivered. “It was so thoughtful and kind,” the patient’s wife said. Patients, their loved ones and visitors can nominate a nurse anytime for a DAISY Award.

During a special ceremony, Friedman was presented with a DAISY Award appreciation certificate for being an “Extraordinary Nurse” and a small sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.” The design for the latter originates from the Shona Tribe in Africa.
