NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., October 11, 2018 – Florida Hospital New Smyrna recognized Trey Gugliara, a staff member in internal medicine physician Dr. Kimberly Keller’s office at the Florida Hospital New Smyrna Health Park, with the Starfish Award. This award recognizes employees that are not nurses, but still provide impactful, compassionate patient care.
Gugliara was nominated by a Chris Miller, practice manager for Florida Hospital HealthCare Partners, the employed group of primary care physicians and specialists for the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties.
Miller recounted a time when Uber had mistakenly dropped-off a family at the outpatient facility’s front entrance, instead of Florida Hospital New Smyrna which was four miles away. The family had a loved one taken to Florida Hospital New Smyrna by ambulance for a suspected stroke and were trying to meet him in the emergency department.
“The Uber trip cost $60+ and they did not have the funds to call Uber to come back. Needless to say, they were distraught. Trey was on her lunch hour and overheard what was going on. Without giving it a second thought, she loaded them in her car and delivered them to Florida Hospital New Smyrna,” Miller wrote in a nomination form for Gugliara. “She is so compassionate and caring and is a great example of someone that lives our mission at work and in her personal life. We are truly blessed to have her on our team!”
